I saw the helicopter come down around 12:30p. From my vantage point looked like was coming down from around the first rescue box.

Maybe there should be a little collection of shrines just past the tables for those that the trail has taken, something to get people to think.

Or a sign board something like "It's been x days since the last rescue/death on this trail."

Crosses with flowers are always sobering.

I actually think it should be a sign saying something simple like "Danger: Do Not Hike This Trail on Days when temperatures exceed 90 F."

Won't do any good. There was a huge brightly lit sign in the sky yesterday saying that it was hot. I see they're putting it up again today.

People are conditioned by TV weathermen to equate sunshine with happiness and joy.

I like the simple warning sign and the shrine idea. Maybe a register of rescues and tragedies at the foot of the trail, with testimonials, memorials, warnings whatever from those involved.

What happens to all these people being rescued? There ought to be some channel for communication, not just a blank trailhead.

Mounds of earth approximately the length of a person with a cross at the head with the Inscription "Hiker, identity unknown, #47" would probably get people thinking. Just sayin'.

Screerider, you made me  And you have a point. And I also like HJ's idea of the mound. :)
