Winter Storm to bring Heavy Snow This afternoon and evening

Postby TramWeatherCenter » Thu Dec 15, 2011 2:36 pm

A storm system is approaching the area. As expected, snow showers are exploding across the Los Angeles and San Bernardino County Mountains. This will slide southward into the tram and give the area heavy snowfall this evening. The video forecast was done to explain the rest of it but I issued a Winter Storm Watch for the area yesterday, followed by a Winter Storm Warning this morning.

"...heavy snowfall this evening..." Like the 12-14 inches you forecast on Monday?

Depends what side of the mountain you were on. West slope received the higher amounts on Monday than East. It varies on the mountain and what I forecast is "snow total" ONTOP of the snow already there. That is what matters more.

And to update: The heavy snow did arrive, along with vicinity thunderstorms. There is several inches of new snow up there.

Hi Kevin. "There is" requires a singular, not a plural, as in "There is a snow storm", not "There is several inches of snow." I'll give you this, though, you're a good speller.

This is a small storm, so good luck on that forecast.

Just gotta love those over exuberant snow forecast totals here and at the San G site. Once in awhile though they are right, just not often enough to lend credibility. But just the sound of a winter storm warning brings me hope. Keep those forecasts coming and lets make it real!!

Happy holidays everyone!

Laguna Mtns in San Diego County are getting hammered with snow. About seven inches so far today and NWS forecasting up to another 18" by Sunday. Rare to get that much snow there. Forecast for the San Bernardino Mtns is much more modest. Too bad it isn't dumping where winter mountaineers can really enjoy it...

Thursday had a few inches, and the Winter Storm Warning on the site stated wrap around moisture would hit. The storm is still in the area, and the mountain (where you guys hike) is taking a beating today.

Cameras show the snow coming down hard ...

It was a good-sized storm ... Winter Storm Warning remaining in effect for the Mountain Station through today.
