HELP SAVE HIKING IN THE SANTA ROSAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Dept of Fish and Game has closed the upper reaches of the Bump and Grind Trail, and is ticketing people who go there. They clearly intend to close the entire range of the lower Santa Rosas to humans with the Art Smith and dozens of other trails now closed from January til June every year .

If you want to be able to hike responsibly there PLEASE come to a very important meeting to make your voice heard. The Bighorn Institute and Dept of Fish and Game are going WAY overboard. They have conducted no study to support their closure decision.

They happily issue "exceptions" for big money projects like the Blixseth's golf-course, the Stone Eagle golf-course, and cozy up to big bucks uber-rich, but at the same time they close down the Bump and Grind--the most popular trail in the Coachella Valley used by hundreds of "little people".

PLEASE come to a meeting to make your voice heard. Every year more and more trails are being closed in the name of "the sheep" while allowing millionaires to build their golf-course restaurants and giant mansions. We have to get active or soon there will be no hiking allowed there.

I agree with you, it's cheap, or apparently a fund-raising event - to close a trail and cry "Save the bighorn!" and another thing altogether to actually document that a few hikers will scare the bighorn into infertility.

Think about it. There are bighorn that live near mountain lions, bears, deer - lots of other large mammals, some of which try to eat them. But they're still here. Hunting them, destroying their habitat - these are the enemy. Not a few mild-mannered hikers who couldn't catch a bighorn if we tried and would only shoot them with a camera in any case.

seriously, convince me that its okay to fence the sheep out for of a golf course, but take away a means for citizens (any concerned politicians here ?) to try and stay healthy and stay away from an overpriced, thourouly screwed up health care system.

I've spent a little time in the santa rosas and it seems the sheep have enough room as it is...they even seem to oddly gravitate toward manicured lawns and flower beds.....really? theyre scared of humans?..they had to put a fence up to keep them outta hwy 111 in Rancho Mirage.. and hikers are scaring them ?! I've walked up on sheep that didnt even get up to move when i walked within 30 feet...

Let them loose on stone eagle....the golfers wont really bother them.
