Roll Call for Saturday 5/28

Heading up to Palm Springs tomorrow and staying the night...then it's rise and shine time early on Saturday Morning. My cohorts and I will likely be departing around 3-3:15AM from the museum.

Just wanted to get a head count and see who I might run into on the trail?

I am planning on hiking it this weekend, though I'm leaning towards Sunday or Monday. According to weather reports, Saturday will be quite windy and Sunday will be the coolest, so I'll probably go Sunday.

I'll be on Skyline with Robert who is out visiting from Colorado We'll be starting between 3 AM and 3:30 AM -- he's driving over from Big Bear while I only have to commute from Riversmog (er...Riverside).

Sunday does look like a cooler day -- predicted high in Palm Springs is 76 versus 94 for tomorrow. Predicted low for tomorrow is 65, versus 58 for Sunday.

Looks like we could have a good breeze as we gain elevation, especially Sunday.

I'm leaving San Diego around Noon today -- I don't even want to imagine what 15/215 North will look like during rush hour. On the Friday BEFORE Memorial Day weekend. Can you say Las Vegas weekenders?

I don't envy your commute out to Palm Springs. I've made the mistake of hiking on San Jacinto on Memorial day, then driving back to Riverside. The returning traffic going west doubles my commute from one hour to two hours

Hey Lightgy,

Regarding rush-hour on the 15/215 North, you might want to take the 79 east when you get to Temecula out through Aguanga & Anza to Palm Desert. It will probably be a little faster than 215, and the scenery is much better. Have fun!

@ohiker - You're from San Diego? That's where I hail from. I'm thinking of heading out about 1 am either Saturday or Sunday - not sure which day yet.

Sunday is starting to look a little frigid. While 58° is the low in the desert, according to the handy new app I have on my iPhone, it's going to drop below 40° on the peak. Guess I'd better bring a warmer jacket.

@lightgy - Good to know there'll be a couple others out on Sunday. I'm thinking of starting around 4 am myself. This is my first time up, so I expect to lose the trail a few times (I have it saved in my GPS app). Not sure how quickly I'll be moving in relation to you - I typically do about a 20 min mile while climbing, but I expect I'll be quite a bit slower on this trail.
