I ve been involved with this and strongly believe in it. I will be posting more of my own comments about it tomorrow with a couple of photos.

I've got a suggestion that perhaps someone would like to take me up on. Every winter there are several Skyliners that get into trouble in the snow (can't see anything looking like a trail). On the traverse, these people may turn up a drainage too early or miss the turn up to Grubbs Notch and end up in the drainage by Coffman's.

Maybe someone should put some good quality tape flagging high on a tree, close enough that the next one is always in sight. Most of you don't need it and may consider it distracting from the wilderness, but it could really keep someone from getting in trouble.

I nominate Fernando. He loves climbing trees!

Don't need any tree climbers, I saw the helicopter at work first thing this morning.

I'm pretty sure the Coachella Valley Hiking Club wasn't involved in this as both articles mention. It's our little forum here that's involved. And i can prove it as i saw Fernando getting free helicopter rides today to help install both boxes. CV Hiking Club nowhere to be found.

Here's a pic of Fernando and Michael (PSMP) installing the box at the 5300' level ► https://twitpic.com/2nk6d8

I'll have some more pics and video tomorrow.

Correction

As far as I know, the Desert Sun is wrong about the Coachella Valley Hiking Club being involved. While I am sure that everyone in the club would think it was a good idea, we don't want to take credit for something that we are not part of. It is possible that individual members of the club are taking part. If so I would like to hear from them so I can write about it on the club website. It sounds like a worthwhile project.

Went to the first box this morning to check it out. The contents were all still in place (Yay!) although someone has added a Pure Addiction sticker to the front of the box and left the backing paper on the ground. I picked it up along with some boots and a bunch of water bottles left along the trail nearby.
