According to the story location is near Soboba Road and State Street. That's over near Hemet and not in an area that would normally interest hikers.

Sounds like he was out for over 24 hours.

Replying to Susiesnowflake:
I still can't figure out what kind of idiot goes hiking in the wilderness by himself....

Yeah, like Moses, Jesus, Thoreau, John Muir.

I'll never understand it

I thought about this 'easy accessibility' issue Wednesday afternoon when I was sitting at the water hole in RV filtering water and a group came by to watch me and indicated they had drank the water ... via hand motions. I don't think they spoke english and couldn't read the sign that said 'Filter drinking water' ...

I offered to filter water for them, but they kind of communicated that they had not died yet so it must be ok ...

Hi, Pitown,

Nice to see you on this side of the pass.

That is VERY interesting information about groups vs. individuals in the wilderness. Fascinating. I have to show that to my wife. Maybe I shouldn't feel so guilty when I go out on my own.

Woof,

The water's pretty clean out in the wilderness despite what you may have heard. However, that faucet is one that I would not drink out of without treatment.

pitownpi, Thank you for the interestig take on hiking alone. I am a frequent solo hiker and get a lot of flack, especially because I am a gal. But I am super careful about paying attention to my surroundings, and I only hike on trails (so someone will eventually come across me if something happens.) I am much more brazen when I'm hiking with a group.
