My Plan Today

Postby Lcpl Hughes » Sat Jun 26, 2010 6:47 am

I plan on starting out in Humber Park around 1-2 pm today..take the Devils Slide up to Saddle Junction and then head up to Willow Creek and then up through the Hidden Divide Preserve into Long Valley to the Mountain Station..where I will slide up to the tram bar and have a beer or 2..gonna meet up with some friends coming up on the last tram..then hike to the peak from there in the Full Moon Light..be on the peak at Midnight, possibly hang out till sunrise (To see what John Muir saw) and then take the Devils Slide back to my car..figure this will be somewhere around 22-23 miles..always interesting to see how these things pan out..fool proof, right? haha

Hope to see some of you out there..

Sounds like a perfect plan to me, especially refueling at the half way mark

Enjoy!

That does sound like fun! Will you need a camping permit to stay on the peak overnight i wonder?

good question..if I don't sleep and I don't lay down, is that considered camping? I think I might need one cause I will be up there over night..but I know, there is NO camping on the peak and I am not bringing a tent or sleeping back or any of that..maybe I will grab a camping permit for Little round valley just to have it..the Idyllwild Ranger Station will be open when I get there today..I will ask, Kinda

The park is open 24 hours and as far as i know there's no rule against hiking at night. If you don't set up camp you're not camping as far as i'm concerned. I'm planning to come up the tram Sunday morning. Maybe i'll see your friends on their way down.

You might see my team in the morning if we are quick enough. We are headed up South Ridge at 0330. Shouldn't take that long to cover the 11 miles.

I might have seen them. I'll send a private msg. Can't wait to hear your trip report for this! I had a very good hike from the tram to peak and back today. I got to the summit before most of the daily crowd arrived.

Hey Florian,
Yeah, it was a crazy/fun time out there yesterday and last night..I ended up doing what I said I was gonna do, by going up the devils slide, heading over to Willow Creek, up through the hidden preserve and into Long Valley and the mountain station..
Well, I ended up leaving earlier than I expected and the hike went real fast..that area though skunk cabbage meadow is pretty much flat and....I really liked this route, beautiful..I want to go out there soon and take a nap..

I was at the mountain station early, 4 hours early..haha..what to do? I ended up getting a burger and some fries..$9.75  went and watched the making of the tram movie a couple of times, went down the ranger station and filled up my water..walked over to the top of skyline and went to the crag on the left as your coming up and found a nice spot in the shade and took an hour nap..killed some more time..blah, blah

My GeoFriends arrived at around 8:20 pm..

(I will continue this in a bit)
