Best Place to Propose on the Cactus to Clouds hike?

Postby dima » Wed May 19, 2010 1:35 pm

Hi All,

My girlfriend and I will be doing the C2C hike on Sunday of Memorial Weekend (assuming I get the camping permit - talked to them yesterday and they said still 30 spots left at Tamarack *fingers crossed*).

What's a romantic, majestic and secluded place to propose on this trail? Hiking and nature are a huge part of our relationship so I'm psyched to immortalize the moment on the trail.

I realize it'd be hard to find a totally secluded spot over Memorial weekend, but if any of you know a secret turn off, nook or cranny I'd love to hear it!

The higher the better of course, but the higher areas will probably have more people too because they're cable-car accessible.

Thanks so much! I'm really excited to do this trip :)

The enchanted garden of course. its between the 4300 marker and 5000 feet, best place in the world.
Congrats and good luck.

That's going to be a very long awkward hike if she says no lol.

Congratz sounds exciting.

I'd wait and do it on the San Jacinto summit.

San Jacinto summit sounds great to me too. You could go to the hut for privacy and put a do not disturb sign on the door.

Tina: Is Enchanted Garden marked in any way? Does the trail go through it? How do I find it? Please give more info!

DSSAR: she said 'If you don't propose soon, I will' - I think I'm safe. It would be awkward otherwise!

Florian: Would love to do it at the summit, but I'm afraid it'd be teeming with people, being Memorial weekend. It's such a personal thing, it'd be awkward if we're surrounded by people as it happens. Are there any secluded places on or near the summit?

Thanks guys! This is really exciting!

Also, I'm going up there on Sunday to scout it out. Won't do the whole hike then - will take the cable car up.

Dima!

hmmmm, after the 4300 marker, you switch back up a bit, you then cross through two big boulders and around the front of the mountain. you will then be walking parallel with the airport runway and walking towards san g. that is the best way i can describe it.

There is a nice little spot on the east side of the summit hut. Most people hang out on the west side and go in the hut but not the east side. If you haven't asked her by the time you get to the hut check it out.

My second recommendation would be at my water cache bucket at the 5700' notch. Even without the cache it's a nice pretty spot and usually a breeze to cool you down. Maybe we can stock with champagne beforehand!
