Snow Creek Roll Call/Transportation/Car Pooling

Howdy All :)

To my knowledge, these are the folks going:

Ellen
Phil
Tina
Brad
Greg
GigaMike
Z-dude
Mark N
Steve (Bluerail)
Lilbitmo (Patrick)
Kathryn

I also have not been to the Snow Creek trail head and am uncertain where to park. Perhaps we could rendevous somewhere on 111 and only take a few cars to the starting point. Suggestions?

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

Regarding parking, what Walt was referring to is parking within the little community itself. They are somewhat isolated and a bit cautious about who is wandering around amongst their houses. Not paranoid or unfriendly, just cautious.

The road that comes up off the 111 is about 2-3 miles. The Blair Witch Snow Creek sign I refer to will be on your left. As long as you make a u-turn at that point and park somewhere along the side of the road, it is completely legal and the Snow Creek folks I have spoken with (quite a few at the end of my runs have said hi) have no problem with PCT hikers. Again, they are just cautious about people prowling around their community, and when you get there it will be both obvious where to park and completely natural to stay out of the community as you go up the PCT. No worries.

There do seem to be some logistical questions unresolved:

How do we get back to our cars? That would be a monster cab fare.

What time will our support team of 1 actually be in place?

Is there a group of 2 or more who will perform the trail sweep? Or, failing that, can the last few people let halhiker know how many are behind them?

I am trying to work out dropping my truck off on Friday afternoon at the tram station overnite parking. I am trying to find someone to pick me up that afternoon to take me home in La Quinta. I can fit 5 or 6 additional folks ( more if they want to lay down in the back of my truck). I will update with more info when available.

Just so i got this right...we take the 111 from the 10-turn onto snow creek road? (this is the first turn off-the only turn off right when you get onto the 111, right?) then from there drive on the dirt road to the end of it? lets keep in mind my roots are not blond but direct me as such...thanks

Coming off the 10 Freeway heading South West on the 111 towards Palm Springs - yes it's the first turn to the right, it's a paved road not a dirt road, that leads into the small community of (not making fun here) Snow Creek which has doublewides and prefab homes that make up that community - that's just the preferred construction type of home in that area. Zippy has pointed out that there's a "Blair Witch Project" type sign that you cannot miss, make a U-turn here and park on the side of the road facing back towards the 111.

What's still not clear is how any of us are going to get a ride back from the bottom of the tram to pick our cars up at this location on Snow Creek road?

If one person get's a ride or gives me a ride I will be glad to back track in my truck and pick up 7 people - I have large 8 passanger truck.

Let's avoid the Taxi ideal that's an expensive ride

Why don't we just walk back to the cars and make it a loop? It's only another 12 or so miles.... :P

Howdy Lilbitmo :)

As long as one person has a vehicle at the tram, I think we're good. I've similarly gone back to the tram to pick up people after I've been dropped off at my car at the museum.
