Skyline May 9 - kinda hot - going elsewhere?

Postby zippetydude » Fri May 08, 2009 10:12 am

Ugh. After Walt's post, I realized it's already getting hot on us. The fall gives us a bunch of chances to do Skyline on beautiful, cool, clear days. Looks like the spring gave us one Saturday with no snow and no heat! Is anybody/everybody still going? I might, but I'm also thinking about South Fork or San Bernardino Peak over in the San Gorgonio Wilderness.

Howdy Z :-)

Just call me a Skyline lemming...

Thanks to my Swedish heritage, I'm no fan of the heat, but I promised a friend that I'd go back up tomorrow. We'll be starting before the crap of dawn with Kathryn. Steve and Tina are starting later. Mark may even go again.

I have to admit that hiking Skyline in the full moon is also appealing.
And, there's Fat Tire on tap waiting for me at the tram.

Whatever you decide to do, have a great day :-)

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

I've been in two minds, but will probably go up tomorrow. Absolutely no later than 4am though, probably a little earlier. I want to be above 4000' when the sun comes up...

Are the Sierra Club still going?

Skyline may 9th - kinda hot

Postby Cy Kaicener » Fri May 08, 2009 11:37 am

http://outdoorsclub.org is still going tomorrow (c2c) at 4.00 am as of now.
The Sierra Club is not going until July 11 around midnight. Thats a sensible starting time for a c2c in summer.

Well, I just might. What kind of pace are you planning on tomorrow? Maybe see you at Flatrock?

National Weather Service reports the low tonight will be 72 and the high tomorrow will be 101 in Palm Springs - sounds painful to me, but then I'm a whimp when it comes to heat.

No way, Kathy - it's going to be WAY cooler than that. I'm showing it down to at least 70, Brrrrr!

Convinced?

Me neither. Still, I'll probably do Skyline since there's way more fun people on Skyline than any other trail!

I was kinda hoping for a cool day tomorrow, maybe shoot for a PR. No chance. I'm slow as a slug in the heat, so that's totally out of the question.

Much better than a PR would be a reunion of last week's crew at Flatrock or the upper tram. Sounds like a possibility, and the heat only increases my chances of going in search of a cold one!

See everyone on the trail if I don't wimp out!
