Tram Road Challenge October 25th!

General Palm Springs area.

Here's someone's blog with some good ideas for trail runs:

I've been sporadically taking part in the marathon training runs with the Loma Linda Lopers and this morning when I got done I found a flyer for the Desert Edge Challenge, which is a 5K/10k/15K run in Banning on Sept 28th - easier than the tram run - the 15K has 1000 ft of gain over the first half and then it's downhill for the second half.

I've run this race and I've racewalked it. My times were nearly identical.

The race is advertised as having 100" of level terrain. Actually there is a small downhill, maybe 75' :). It's a tuff race, all uphill and relentless. You just put your head down and start chugging. Keeping an eye on your HRM to make sure you stay in your zone. The race starts just about 1 block up from the junction with 111. The finish line is right in front of the Tram building. The toughest part of the race is the last couple hundred yards. As you go thru the parking lot the ramp to the building gets pretty steep on spent legs.

Parking for the event is easy just one block further down 111. They will shuttle you to the start from there. After the race you are bussed back down to your car. Great T shirts. dg

It's possible, but no way is Michiko going to walk up the tram road. lol. Non-starter.

I do plan to be out in the San Jacs this Fri and Sat for a quick overnighter at Caramba. Which reminds me that I haven't verified that I've got a permit yet. I'd better hop on it. :D

I thought I'd bump this one up.

I'm leaning toward giving it a try. From last year's results it looks like there's a good mix of runners from fast to slow; so I'll have plenty of company at the back of the pack.

Ooooh, I think the Baldy Race was enough uphill running for me till the Mt Wilson race, good lucks guys!

However, if anyone is intrigued in non-mountain running, there is a half-marathon in Los Angeles in early December.

Well, for a change of pace, pop over to my side of the mountain and do the Tinsel Triathlon in Hemet on Dec 14th.
