Water Updates

1. Trail from Mtn Sta to Round Vly -- intermittent water in creek along trail. A few decent pools suitable for filtering.
2. Round Valley -- Pipe flowing reasonably well. Suitable for filtering.
3. Little Round Valley -- Flowing poor in meadow. Sucked up a lot of silt. Best place to filter water is downstream from the meadow where the trail crosses the creek. There is small but suitable pool about 8 to 10 feet upstream from the crossing.
4. West side of Mt. San J -- Several creeks flowing well between Little Rnd Vly and Strawberry Camp.
5. Strawberry Cienaga -- some water flowing in small amounts. Probably not suitable for direct filtering although you might be able to collect some in one container and filter to another. Not my first choice.
6. Tahquitz Creek -- Flowing well. More than adequate for filtering.
7. Willow Creek at Laws Camp -- Flowing OK, but a little stagnant looking in spots. Suitable for filtering. Plenty of good pools. Not flowing as well as Tahquitz Creek.
8. Hidden Lake. Lake level low, but enough for filtering.

I'm planning a backpack to Tahquitz Valley, Tahquitz, and Red Tahquitz. I'm actually going to go the first weekend in October, but I thought I'd try to get a current status just to see if any of these water sources might be a good bet in October.

Little Tahquitz Valley: the stream in the meadow is dry, but if you go up to the junction with the PCT and then head 100 yards east on the PCT towards Red Tahquitz, the stream crossing there is still running with a decent flow.

Does anyone have an update of this water source 100 yds E on the PCT as one leaves the trail that goes through Little Tahquitz Valley?

Tahquitz Valley: The creek is flowing through the meadow so I would assume that downstream, there would be water available.

How's the water in Tahquitz Valley right now?

The spring SE of the 4 way trail junction that comes out of a plastic pipe was flowing strong and looks like it will last until the winter storms. If you don't know where it is, follow either the trail to Laws Camp or the one to Little Tahquitz Valley (closer to this one), shortly after the trail junction look for a faint social trail which should lead you to it. I don't know why it isn't marked on my Tom Harrison Map since it flows well most years. I only discovered it by accident on one trip.

Anyone been there recently that can give a "water report?" Also, can anyone give me a more detailed description of how to find the spring? I looked for this spring the last time I was through the area but didn't spot it.
