Trip next week Tu-Th: tram to round valley ?

Greetings all,

My son and I are going Tuesday morning to Thursday (or Friday) morning. Looks like the water supply is fine up there, how about the mosquitos? Don't want to carry unneccessary stuff!

The mosquitos are doing fine. :) I would use some kind of repellent on clothes (not skin) or stay in the tent in the evenings.

Thanks, Perry. . .Sounds like I'll need more than a tarp! That's ok: I don't want the boy to get bugged!

Just returned from 2 days in Tamarack Valley - can't say I noticed many mosquitos or annoying bugs. Of course, lots of ants due to a less than clean campsite we inherited from the previous occupants. However, my kids and I didn't use any repellant or anything. Water was plentiful at the Round Valley "spring".

We had an excellent trip, with great weather conditions. I did take an REI "Bug Hut" mesh shelter. Mosquitos showed up only last night (Wednesday): they eyed me thru the mesh at dusk  Our camp was the last site at the end of Round Valley, where the creek starts. We were up early on Wednesday to make the hike to the peak and take in the magnificent view.

That bug hut looks nice.

The BugHut worked out well; at under 4lbs, it is much lighter than my current tent, a Sierra Designs Polaris. I'm about to order one of TarpTent's "Double Rainbow" tents: a little over 2lbs. 8)
