Tamarack Campground Snow?

Postby sandiegosurf » Wed Apr 09, 2008 2:15 pm

I am considering going up next week and spending a night at Tamarack Campgrounds. Can anyone on here tell me how much snow there is at that level?

Thanks!

I'm curious about this too. I'd also like to know generally what the snow conditions are like between the tram and the peak.

I spoke to a ranger this morning and was told the snow level is at 7900'.
FWIW.

Presently,Long Valley (8,400 ft) has 30% coverage, melting fairly fast, crunchy & soft, so I'd guess Tamarack would have about 70-80%, maybe 1-2 ft.
Temps will be warming considerably the next few days, 90's in Palm Springs, 60's in the forest in my guess.

Has anyone taken the trail from Round Valley up to San Jacinto Peak? I'm wonder how the trail is and what to expect.

We are heading to Round Valley from the Tram, then up to the peak on Saturday monring.

Please try to post up what conditions are like for you. I'll be headed up there next week, and any info will be much appreciated.
