You're off to a good start. I've always wanted to do that from Whitney Portal Road right where it turns to go into the canyon. Looking out over the Owens Valley to the Alabama Hills, past Lone Pine, and on over to the White Mountains, you can watch the shadows race across the land as the sun sets behind Mt. Whitney. If you do that one, I hope you'll post it!
