Rescue in Idyllwild Saturday night

Postby cynthia23 » Sat Aug 08, 2015 7:26 pm

I"m up in Idyllwild this week and tonight there is what seems to be a helicopter rescue in progress--emergency vehicles parked at the bottom of the Deer Springs TH and a helicopter flying up on the ridge. The helicopter just flew away. Hope that means they found/rescued the person :?: Does anyone know what happened? There was an insane amount of people in town today and parked at the TH; I"m certainly not surprised there would be a rescue. Hope all is okay now.

Hm. Well the helicopter came back and again went to the same location, which from my somewhat blocked position in a house in Pine Cove, appears to be on the upper part of Devil's Slide. Then after a few minutes they left and flew away, I think to the staging area with the ambulance. I"m not sure why they have made two trips, maybe there is a lot of people? :o
Hopefully someone reading this actually knows what is happening. And hopefully all is well now. It's nearly dark. :(

edit an hour later--they came back again, to the same spot, and then flew away, not to the staging area. Maybe they are finishing up--let's hope it's all finished and everything is okay now. It's completely dark now.

We heard the helos and sirens too. Article on The Press Enterprise (vague as always) said there was a rescue of an "injured climber on Suicide Rock. Pretty typical weekend in IDY. Just thankful it wasn't a fire.

So that's what is was. Well, I'm glad whoever it was was rescued, and it sounds relatively minor. I don't subscribe to the PE, so thanks for that update, Ulysses. :)
