Uh oh. Bluerail's gonna get there a lot faster than me, that's for sure . Although this might motivate me to pick up my 'majestic' pace. :D

:)

Edit: It would be funny to leave beer in the snow on upper Skyline in late spring, but I think there's already too much entitlement going on. I wouldn't want to give a beer to somebody that just raided the rescue stations because he didn't want to carry much water. But Cynthia and Steve, I'd leave beers for both of you. The tram bar is okay I guess if you don't mind the high prices, TV's, and the noise. But it's way better I think to sit on some boulders and share stories and good conversation.

I'm told if they do close the route the closures would be done by Cal Fire as a fire closure on the BLM/Palm Springs side and the State Park would post some sort of public safety ordinance.

People will be sited this summer by the State Park Rangers if they are endangering themselves. For example hiking with out the proper gear/food/water will get you a fine if someone has to rescue you. Especially, if you have already hiked skyline.

However, I was also told If you are injured or hurt on the Route up to the Tram station it seems that the Search and Rescue teams will still provided all their services for free but it is up to the Ranger who is on scene with the patients. "spirit of the law"

If anyone sees blogs or forums posting that its okay to hike skyline past the Month of May please inform them that the State Park Rangers Don't recommend hiking skyline from June - September. They don't recommend anyone, not even experienced hikers hike skyline between June-September because all it takes is one broken/sprained ankle and your stuck out in the heat till help arrives.

One of the very first times i hiked Skyline, in fact i think it was the first time i hiked all the way through, a friend and i did it as an overnight trip. We camped near Flat Rock but lost the trail early the next day. This was before the Dry Falls fire of 1980 cleared out a lot of the brush. We somehow ended up on the ridge line south of where the Skyline trail is and struggled all the second day to make it to Long Valley. There was still some snow on the ground and believe it or not we found someone had left (lost?) two beers in the snow! I think we were 17 or 18 and neither of us drank... but we drank those beers!!!

That is funny. And way back then you discovered a theoretical route to possibly avoid ice in the spring time that has been discussed here before, but I don't know if anybody knew the answer to the question. Sounds like that xc route wasn't exactly easy.

FWIW, I summarized my thoughts on this subject. Rather than have it buried nine pages down, I put it in a separate post.
