Skyline Saturday?

I am interested in hiking up to the tram this coming Saturday. This is the first time I am making the trip and would prefer to to make the trek with someone or a group that has completed it in the past.

Looking up from Palm Springs this afternoon (Friday) doesn't look like there is much snow on upper Skyline. But might be icy. I'd not go tomorrow. But i hate the cold.

Howdy All

Miracle Marilyn and I headed up about 6:30 AM. We were sweating buckets, then got nailed by direct sunlight until we passed Rescue One at 2.5 K. By the 5 K ridge, the ambient temperature was nice and we had a breeze. Took a short break at St. Florian's point. Rime ice started in earnest at Flat Rock. We didn't encounter actual snow until about 7 K. Donned micros and long sleeved Smart Wool tops when we reached the beginning of the traverse. I added down mittens due to my cold-sensitive hands. The views of the clouds over the snowy San Gorgonio range were spectacular. There were lots of snow flocked trees and rime ice covered brush on the way to Grubbs Notch. I got some interesting looks when I arrived at the tram about 12:30 wearing shorts, long sleeved and down mittens Joined many friends for a celebratory beverage before refueling at Las Casuelas and heading home.

I need a pair of those. I've had more problems with icy fingers on Skyline than I've had with heat. Don't know why, I was once a fairly cold-tolerant person, who had chilly toes and lips before my fingers caused me problems. Now I'm a wimp when the temperature is in the 40's.
