Searchers needed to help find missing man near lower Tram

Postby cynthia23 » Fri May 16, 2014 2:14 pm

I just checked my local news source, kesq.com, and apparently a Palm Springs man, Andy Stubbs, has been missing since May 4th. His friends are organizing a search party and it appears from their Facebook page that they believe he is somewhere near the lower Tram Station. Obviously by now he is not likely to be alive, but of course either way they need to find him. They are going to search for him tomorrow morning starting at 8.a.m. and need volunteers. If you want to help, go to kesq.com and click on the link to the facebook page there, find Andy Stubbs.

Update--there is now a web page devoted to the search effort, cprps.com

They are asking volunteer searchers to meet at the Palm Springs Visitors Center tomorrow (Sat May 17) at 8 a.m. Drivers will shuttle searchers up the Tram Road to the area where Andy is thought to be, apparently by the hot springs. His shirt was found nearby, on a trail going up the hill. It seems he was in a depressed state and the worst is feared.

I have a previous commitment I can't change and I can't go and help. But If anyone could find him, it would be somebody on this board. And obviously it's going to be brutally hot, so the people best equipped to find him ARE people on this board. I fear his friends don't realize what they're getting into tomorrow. People are coming in from out of town, Canada, etc. Unless he is very near the bottom of Chino, I don't think they can physically handle it.

Anyone available?

Additional thought: even if you aren't available to help search tomorrow, there's nothing to stop someone from searching on their own, at a time that works for them. Of course, when I say 'someone' I mean some of the half-a- dozen very fit regulars/locals on this board who regularly go off trail in that area--I am certainly NOT recommending that 'regular people' go searching on their own. That could be dangerous, especially given how ferocious the weather is now.

btw--if you are thinking of doing Skyline/C2C this weekend? Please. Just. Don't.

Good luck to the searchers. I see the high is predicted at over 100. That lets me out.

Yes, I totally hear you HJ. It's concerning that they aren't starting their search until 8.a.m. By the time they actually ferry everyone up there and get started it will probably be 9.

The search has been cancelled. The facebook page dedicated to finding him, states that they believe he has been found.

Thank you for that update, NeverWas. A very sad story, but at least there will be closure for his family and friends.
