The Cabin at Agua Fuerte Springs

Went up the West Fork yesterday to look for the cabin that is noted on some old topo maps.

Did find the cabin site and some artifacts (tin cans/etc.) but the Mountain Fire and the August flash flood really did a number on the whole area. The good news is that the canyon is brush free and spectacular. Well worth exploring if you are into observing the power of nature.

I was sad to see the area where Pelton trail crosses the West Fork was gone. Was always such a nice shady place to enjoy on a warm afternoon. Haven't been to Agua Fuerte yet.

The canyon is scoured clean all the way up to Agua Fuerte. Makes for great hiking and the water is still flowing strong. The vegetation is starting to grow back but it's going to be a long time before it resembles what it was pre fire and flood.

Would suggest going down into the canyon off the Jo Pond trail at 2600 ft. right before the Eye of the Needle.

So, you dropped into the canyon before Needle's Eye and then went up the canyon? That's awesome if it's all passable. That used to be so overgrown with grapevines it was impossible to navigate. There are some petroglyphs I'd like to visit there.
