Mook,
If you use the north Lykken trail (end of Ramon), watch where you park, the dirt lot just by the trailhead is posted no parking now I believe.
There are a couple side streets close, but you are in front of someones house, haven't heard of anyone complaining, just be quite in the am.
It's more gradual, but, as Cy mentioned longer, I's say 1/2 mile, maybe more. The Museum starts steep right off, I'd park behind the Starbucks (Tahquitz & Palm Cyn) in the public parking (unless that lot has a time limit), which will at least give you 2 blk warm up. Also, a few cars that parked across from the Museum were broke into, cops have been notified & are hopefully patrolling more. Trailhead is on the north side of Museum. When you reach the picnic benches, stay to the south of the little hill, trail goes down 20 ft, then to a jct, veer right & you'll see Skyline / Long Valley signs.
