Hiker rescued on worst trail in the desert.

For the second time this week some so-called hiker got rescued on the Bump and Grind "trail".

I don't get all the rescues off these short trails that are in very populated areas. Also with all the traffic on that trail you would think people would come together to get an injured person down.

It does say he was rescued after an unspecified medical emergency. May not have been an act of stupidity at all.

I didn't realize there was a second rescue this week. The rescues on the Bump and Grind are almost all fall-related--some sections are quite steep and people (stupidly, IMHO) run down them. A certain percentage of them are inevitably going to fall and break something. And I'd guess another percentage of the rescues are for people having heart attacks. It's the most well-known trail in the area, and many of the out of town people who try it for the first time, thinking it's just some scenic trail, have no idea that some brief sections are very steep. I've seen people really struggling and in distress. Again, it's a percentage issue--when you send hundreds of fat, unconditioned, elderly people up a very steep trail every week, the law of averages says there's going to be heart attacks.

I actually think it's a good work-out trail with nice views at the top, but it's too crowded for my taste and out of my way--I only do it once or twice a year.

Except two of the five trails in Cy's link are currently closed: Spitler Peak and Lost Palms Oasis.
