San Jacinto from Afar

The San Jacintos are of course one of the major ranges in Southern California. They can literally be seen for miles. Like this morning.



That's from 95 miles away.

Jim, in the second photo is that Mt. Wilson on the right with all the towers?

No, that's Flint Peak in the San Rafael Hills. Mt. Wilson is further north.

Here's Mt. Wilson (on the far horizon, a bit right of center) shot the same day from about the same spot. Mt. Wilson has far more antennae.

95 miles; sure is nice when we have such clear skies.

Indeed the skies were clear, clear to a degree not normally seen. I could even see tiny little Santa Barbara Island out at sea.


Closer to (my) home, the San Fernando Valley:


Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills (yes, that's the Pacific Ocean behind the ridge):


Downtown Los Angeles:


And Silver Lake Reservoir:


A little farther afield, I could see "Saddleback" (Santiago and Modjeska Peaks), some 53 mi/85 km distant.

Note that even though it's some 50+ miles distant, the antennae atop Santiago Peak can be seen!
