My Skyline Hike on Saturday

Postby DancesWithTheMountains » Mon Nov 11, 2013 3:38 pm

Hi Everyone,
What a great day on Skyline Saturday. I didn't intend to go all the way because of this lung infection I had, but, I felt so good that after I hit 5,000ft, I just kept going. Felt good all the way up till the last two switchbacks and boy did I pay for it.!!(lol) I want to thank Steve for all the work he did covering up those awful pink and red and green dots and arrows. What a mess. I noticed that the only place that was free of them was my Enchanted Garden which is above 4300ft. For those of you who do the 23 switchbacks on the shady slope which is above 2500ft., please do not follow that ugly arrow at the top of the last switchback. It goes up the wrong way and now there is another path off of the trail that doesn't belong there. I had to show a couple of hikers where to go and they were very greatful. I noticed that the initial on one of the rocks was MP. Does that stand for mindless person??? Who ever this idiot is, he or she has no regard for the trail or for the wild and untouched beauty of this special trail. I heard the Rangers were not too happy about the damage done to the last couple of switchbacks at the top. Lots of ugly pink paint smeared all over the rocks. Also want to thank Jack for finishing off the rest of the damage on Sunday. I think by next weekend we will have it almost completely covered. Lets hope these morons don't come back again.
Happy Trails

I got a new job in July, so all I do now is drive all week. Ugh. I'm very out of shape right now since I only hike once per week right now.

We're moving closer to my job at the end of the month, so maybe I can get back into shape in time for a spring Skyline.

Well done Doreen! You're an inspiration to me (and many others!) Ditto on your thanks to Steve, Jack, and everyone else who helped on getting rid of the horrible dots.

Howdy Doreen, the Skyline Queen :)

Congratulations on another one -- you continue to inspire me :D Sorry I missed seeing you on Saturday -- I hiked up on Sunday

The clouds helped keep the temperature down and provided a beautiful sunrise 8)

The quote of the day -- I met Julia on her first Skyline and hiked with her from 4 K on. When we reached Grubbs Notch, she said, "Is that it?" I nearly fell down from laughing.

Saw many of my mountain family -- Speedy Steve, InFerno, Diana, Sam, Marilyn, Perry, Lindella, Reza, Carole, and Brad.

I also want to thank Speedy Steve, Indie Jack and other Good Samaritans for dealing with the ugly orange dots.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

Hi Ellen,
I was hoping to see you but then I figured you might have gone up on Sunday. Glad you had some cloud cover. It was still a littl hotter than I liked it to be from 4,000 to 6,000ft. Just can't seem to get those cooler temps just yet. Look forward to seeing you soon.
