Burn Area Maps

Postby JH_FreeSpan » Tue Aug 20, 2013 11:00 am

Has anyone come across any accurate, final burn area maps of the 2 major San Jacinto fires? (It appears there are 2 major fires, the Mountain Fire to the south and the Silver Fire to the north, correct?)

Also, if anyone is looking for a optimistic perspective, check out the wikipedia page on the Mountain fire:

There are a number of very accurate maps if you look at some of the other posts.

Hi JH_FreeSpan. Welcome to the board! As far as I can tell the Silver Fire did surprisingly little more than burn off a few tumbleweeds and some oak scrub. I drove out and looked at it over the weekend and the trees along the ridge appear to be unharmed. Basically it burned from the base of the mountain up to the ridge, stretching east from hwy 243 to Haugen-Lehman way. The maps HJ is talking about are in the Silver Fire thread which is a few spaces down from this one. Look on pages 2 and 3.

Zip,

Would agree the Silver Fire burned mostly brush. But if the maps are correct
the fire burned over One Horse Ridge which I found to have some of the best 360 views in the San Jacintos. Was there in Mid June and was amazed by the old growth pines and grass clearings that are now apparently lost.

Such is nature but it is a loss of one of those hidden spots that we all love and cherish.
