Hi Kathy,

Have a great time at the Grand Canyon! I did a rim-to-rim-to-rim in April, and it was a blast. C2C is good training for R2R2R. Are you camping out overnight at the north rim, or going non-stop?

Greg: I have a motel room on the 15th at the North Rim - it will be the last night they are open for the season. So it will be a 2-day trip. In the spring I did a day hike down from the South Rim via the S. Kaibab Trail and then back up to the South Rim via the Bright Angel Trail and that was really nice and I think it took a little less than 8 hours, but I know this will be harder - I think a good 10 hours or more of hiking each day. Non-stop might be too much for me.

I'd also like to do the hike to Humphrey's Peak while over there too.

Sounds cool, Kathy! I did it in one shot because I was there before the North Rim opened, but I actually think that your plan is the better approach. A nice, long run/hike across, followed by a hearty meal, a shower, and a night in a real bed, then another day back. I was just trying to sell zippetydude (my brother and C2C mentor) on that very trip a couple of weeks ago...

If you didn't see it on your earlier trip, make sure you take the side trip to Ribbon Falls. It doesn't add but a mile or so, I think, but it's absolutely beautiful.

I'm no expert, but if you have any questions, I'll be happy to help if I can. I don't want to hijack this thread any further afield, so feel free to drop me a line at gcarter@cartersystems.com.

-waves-
my candle burns at both its ends;
it will not last the night;
but ahh, my foes and ohh, my friends---
it casts a lovely light...

cartocracy: Thanks for the info - I haven't see Ribbon Falls, so the side trip will be worth it if I think I can do it and still get to the rim.
