I'm going to 'fall' in with the crowd here and agree that October/November is probably a better time all round. I like Zip's idea of meeting in a Palm Springs park and also like the idea of just doing a reprise of our potluck at the picnic table at the bottom of the walkway. That one seemed to be a winter, oops meant winner.
