Cedar Springs recent water reports?

Postby RobV » Mon Apr 29, 2013 12:32 pm

Hello folks!
I have a buddy that is doing work ups in San Diego to go on deployment, and has been itching to get out and do a little backpacking. We have limited time, we can probably be on the mountain by 3pm Saturday and all day Sunday. I was thinking about hiking from Trails End to Cedar Springs on Saturday, spend the night then walk to the PCT / Hwy 74 junction (probably bug a local friend to shuttle my car down there for me).

My questions are:
Will there be water at Cedar Springs? (Im certain there will be, but it has been so dry, better be safe and ask a dumb question)

Will there be any other water along the way south to the Highway? (Not much that I remember)

Thanks!
RobV

Cedar Spring had water a few weeks ago, per Backwoods (a member of this board). See the official PCT Water Report, and check Sections A-B from mile 151.9 (Highway 74) north to mile 179.4 (Saddle Junction). Apache Spring, Cedar Spring, and Live Oak Spring are probably your best bets for water. Note that these springs are quite a ways downhill from the PCT. Here's a link to their locations on Acme Mapper.

Have a great hike!

Perhaps too late to help but where was usable water at Cedar Springs today at the upper spring box. The lower box was "wet" but i'd use the pipe at the upper box.
