Black Mountain Road

Does anyone know how far Black Mountain Road is open this time of year? I know they lock off gates somewhere, but I don't know where. Is it closed right at the 243 or are the first few miles open?

If I remember correct the gate is at the Hwy

I don't recall if there is a gate at the highway or not. There is a gate about 1.5 miles in just past the fork in the road to Pine Wood.

I did it around this time last year and was walking in the tire groves in the snow untill they turned right and Black Mt rd went straight is were I hit a gate at the black mt fork a mile or 2 up from the 243 and started postholing with no tre tracks to walk in..

Thank for the responses. I was thinking about mountain biking it this weekend, but with the current forecast I'm afraid the snow may be too deep. It's actually fun to ride in the snow if it's less than a foot, but after that I get stuck.
