Wednesday Skyline

Howdy All :)

Sally's daughter Alison is moving to Tennessee and wanted to hike Skyline with us before leaving next week. We started a bit after 6 AM -- it was in the low 50's and we heated up quickly. Perry A enjoys warm weather, while Marilyn, Sally and I prefer cold weather. Diana said hi as she flew by shortly after the picnic tables and let us know that Fern had made tracks the day before 8)

It started to get icy out of Flatrock and we donned microspikes. There's nothing quite like going up a steep hill in snow wearing shorts and t-shirt and having to wipe sweat out of my eyes :? It finally became pleasant on the traverse, which had several more inches of snow compared to Sunday. When going up from Coffman's, certain sections felt like climbing a Stiairmaster due to the depth of footprints and steepness of terrain.

Enjoyed celebratory beverages at the tram bar and a fabulous meal at Las Casuelas.

This present storm may have obliterated the footprints on the traverse and created more of a slope. Also, the freezing weather may make the traverse icy.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

That was great getting the crew together for one more Skyline for Alison before her move. I'm sure the Great Smokies will be pretty, but I doubt they have a butt-kicker like good ol' Skyline.

Ali, we will sure miss hiking with you!
