Tram to .... um Somthing?

Postby greatshaitan » Thu Jan 03, 2013 3:13 pm

Just before Christmas I took the tram up for some hiking. I had my eyes set on the SJP but the slight cloud cover+following the tracks in-font of me, lead me to something else. Sleet/Snow was falling most of the hike, just enough to get me wet.

First, on the drive out to the tram from Temecula, I ran across this beauty. Had to stop off the 111 and snap a photo.

Heading up the winter route towards Tamarack Valley.

Love my goggles when the wind really starts to blow.

About 2 hours in I came to an area around the Wellman Divide. Not exactly sure where I ended up. Anyone know where this is? I did some class 3 scrambling climbed it and called it my peak for the day.

From the top of the rock I got some great views. San Jacinto and Miller (I believe)

Scanning to the right. Cornell Peak and the Upper Tram Station.

Took about 90 minutes to get back to the tram station. I decided I have been here about a dozen times, I need to check out the upstairs area. So a beer was had. The bar tender messed up and accidently charged my beer to another persons tab. The other guy was very generous and even after I begged him not to he bought me the beer with a "Merry Christmas".

Great time! I need to get up here more often in the winter. Anyone know about where I ended up? I didn't bring the ol' GPS on this trip and didn't break out my map as it was cold and windy.

Wellman's would give you some good views to the South. I think you may have been a little North of Wellmans, but hard to say from the pictures.

Hard to say where you ended up, but my semi-educated guess is that you ended up higher on the divide than where the trail crosses the divide. I've been through there when exploring Marion Mtn.

That was my best guess as well.

Great job, greatshaitan! Are you from Temecula? If so you should come visit me at the Rancho Army-Navy Store where I work, and introduce yourself. (Maybe you are a regular already. Your pic looks familiar. I'm not too good with faces!)

I am from Temecula. I have not been into the store but have driven by many a time. I may just have to stop on by sometime!

GreatShatain, I see we both enjoy Arrrogant Bastard ale after snow travel

I was looking forward to that ale after Skyline yesterday but they were out. Fortunately they still had Stone IPA.

Miles of smiles,
