Snow About Little Round Valley

Postby allthink » Mon May 14, 2012 2:13 pm

We got to Little Round Valley and could not follow trail (snow) to summit.

Maybe an impossible prediction, but how much snow melts up at 9,500K in a week. I'd like to try again this weekend.

How deep was the snow? How far above Little Round Valley did it start? Do you have any photos?

No photos...about 200 yards past Little Round Valley there was snow in patches that made finding the path really difficult. I met to guys who were wayyyy off the path and helped them back on it.

Fingers crossed it will be a tad more clear this weekend.

Heading up Friday

That next section above Little Round Valley is prone to snow patches because of shade/tall trees. Curious to know what it's like once you start climbing again. I'm headed up in 2 weeks.

Hope some of it melts for you. Let us know how it looks when you get back.

Just got back from a three day hike up MSJ. We stayed at little round valley the first night after descending from the peak. There was some snow and ice, but nothing that would cause concern. We didn't even need our micro spikes. However there was enough snow at the camp site for a good old fashioned snowball fight!
