Snowpack data?

Hi, are there any snow sensors on Mt. San Jacinto? Something like the CDEC (?) readings for the Sierra?

Or if not, would you estimate this winter's snowpack to be roughly average? I'm guessing based on pictures, but have no data.

I don't what the "average" snowpack is on San Jacinto. However, this is the least snow we've had at this time of the year since 2008.

There's just enough snow to make traveling on trails difficult and not enough to go cross country

I agree, it's a very light year. I heard this year has been one of the lowest rain totals for December on record, which would agree with our observations. That being said, I've done Skyline all the way through the winter before without seeing much snow at all, so this year still has a chance to catch up.

This is the latest in the season that tioga pass has remained open since the park service has been keeping track....guess this isn't the only snowless place.

Mammoth Lakes had 209 inches of snow in Dec 2010, 2 inches in Dec 2011 (99% decrease).

Los Angeles had 10.23 inches of rain in Dec 2010, 1.01 in Dec 2011 (90% decrease).

Remember an average doesn't mean that every year you should expect to receive precisely the average amount of rain or snow.

They do that on the news all the time. It's like: something is terribly wrong with the weather because we aren't getting "average" conditions.
