Unknown Trail in the Santa Rosas

General Palm Springs area.

Postby Florian » Fri Sep 30, 2011 1:33 pm

I checked out the trail this morning. I went about a mile and half or so before i lost the route. It was getting progressively harder to follow as i went east from Sawmill trail/road. Wish i'd thought to bring my GPS to make a map track. I don't think the trail is anything recent. I'd guess it's an old rancher route over to Martinez Canyon area. Might be used by hunters now. Was fun to explore something different!

Mnt. Bike

Postby msugarpants » Thu Oct 06, 2011 10:35 pm

Perry - I mountain bike. My bike is toast at the moment thanks to the rock garden in SLO county, but please keep me posted.

Hal, still so much to explore out there. I still want to know where that trail is described by Shumway that heads down horsetheif to cactus spring trail. Went looking for it twice. Once ending in a severe concussion for Mr. Christensen. Ooops.

There's a bit of a trail that climbs out of Horsethief but I don't know where it goes. I don't know the shumway quote but does it go down from Toro Peak?

alta seca

Hal, from what I gather, its connected to the old toro trail and Cactus springs. So, it may be connected to the part where it crosses the Alta Seca bench area...and travels south. May not have been shumway. Mightve been in 'san bernardino mountain trails' or the old smeaten chase book. I do not recall. Literally one single vague reference.
