Aug 5, 2011, the gooseberries were almost ripe [img]E:\ALL%20years\2011\Aug\Prep\102OLYMP\P8057074.JPG[/img] on the "Lollipop Loop": around Marion's Mounds: Little Round Valley down to PCT, past Strawberry Cienega (pronounced like see a naked), then past Wellman Cienega to Wellman divide, up the "Big Zig" toward San Jacinto Peak, and back down to Little Round Valley.

Ah ha!
It was a pretty exciting acclimation prep - I got to witness a boulder the size of a fridge bounding down the ridge on the opposite side of the watershed. The voices I heard at the beginning of the avalanche sounds came from near one of the CCC work sites.


If this still doesn't work, leave me a more explicit hint. I'm off to the Sierras now.

The pictures are of currants. Local gooseberry plants have thorns. Anyway, in my opinion both need a lot of sugar before they are anything that I look forward to eating.

Tnx for the correction. Their cousins in Onion Valley were dark purple when ripe, and so sour the bears prefer opening cars to harvesting those, although the manzanitas were tidily stripped.
