Tried to make it to the peak today

Postby jMD123 » Wed May 18, 2011 8:26 pm

Two friends and I tried to make it to the peak today. While we had a great time we were not successful. We could not find the turn off low trail to peak trail. There was 8 inches of snow on the trail and we kept going off the trail. We had snow shoes but did not need them. None of us had been to the area before. Weather was ever changing we had blues skies one minute and thick clouds and snow the next. The snow was pretty hard packed.

Hope this helps. We will be back soon.

Turn off low trail? Whaz dat? Do you mean the little spur trail that goes to the peak off of the trail to Little Round Valley?

I dont have the map with me, my buddy has it but we had a map that said we needed to take low trail to peak trail. I think the little spur was off of peak trail. We may have been on it, but we were not sure. We did not want to be those people that got lost and had to call for rescue so we played it safe. Were gonna wait till the snow is gone and make another attempt.

The one bummer is we thought the orange ties on the trees were trail markers but on the way out we spoke to a ranger that said they are part of a tree project.

Interesting. I've never heard that terminology before.

The regular trail follows this route.

Is that the same route that is shown on your map?

Yes thats the same route. We made it to the Round valley campsite and proceeded past that but could not find the trail after that. We were pretty bumened out, but still had a good time.
