We hit the trail Friday at....no idea, dark thirty...probably 9pm. I couldn't even begin to explain the strange events that occured Friday afternoon leading up to the trip, coupled with the fact it was Friday the 13th, with Tahquitz's minions about causing mischief....
Almost full moon, no need for headlamps, we hiked by moonlight. Camped somewhere around skunk cabbage meadow. Lots of PCT hikers, while I got no qualms with them, I am glad they only come through once a year. There was a lot of people out and about.....at night lol.
The next morning, the hike down and past Laws was spectacular, and we saw no one, until later that day at Caramba.
found a mylar ballon, and picked it up to pack it out, and it said Happy Birthday on it. Today is my brothers birthday so I decided to tie it to my hiking staff, I was hoping it help propel me...
I have been a regular of that mountain with countless trip for 12 solid years, and am fully aware of the weirdness that surrounds the mountain. The demonic tricksters were active this trip. I usually half jokingly give offerings to Tahquitz to ward off the evil spirits. I didn't and he attempted to claim something of mine. I had to retrive it from the middle pool in the waterfalls with a stick...the pool was looking deep....and swift. Typical. Would have been a tumble, but might have been fun, was trying to decide if it would be. Lesson learned, offered Tahquitz candy instead. My friend video tapped with his phone and shouted jeers as I desperately struggled to pull the plastic jar from the swirling currents.
To the boy scout troop that camped next to us, sorry for the cold shoulder. You guys are all right...respect.
Got a bit breezy last night, and was a cold walk out this morning, but beautiful as usual. Lots of activity near the PCT on down Devils Slide. Hopefully I will be able to squeeze out trips during the weekday this summer.
