Howdy All

I won't be able to hike Skyline next weekend due to work

Present Skyline conditions may present some problems for first timers. Route finding from the traverse to Coffman's may be a problem and from Coffman's up, there is no established route (see my trip report).

The weather in Palm Springs will be cooler this week. This will make the lower portion of Skyline more tolerable such that folks will continue to go up. However, potential melting and refreezing of snow could make the traverse very icy as well as difficult to negotiate.

There is no water in St. Florian's cache. My understanding is that the rescue boxes at 2.5 K and 5.5 K also have no water. Bottom line, carry adequate fluid.

the water at the bucket is being used by the deer.

btw, the boxes were never meant to be considered as a water source, and yet seemed to be used very frequently during the warmer months. Like Ellen said..bring PLENTY of your OWN water. consider there to be none in the boxes...that is intended, I'm pretty sure, to be used by someone that is literally down to crawling. not by people that just did'nt bring enough and are "thirsty"....I'm sure people don't want to end up feeling like others are carrying up water for them...would you carry water for others just because they're thirsty?

unless you're hallucinating or almost dead....maybe you should leave it for someone who is in real trouble.
