Suggestions for this weekend

I'm planning on bringing the camper up to Idyllwild this Saturday. It's my first time up there. Can anyone suggest some nice day hikes that will still be accessible with the current snow fall? I'm looking for anything that will be fun to do in four hours or less time. Is the San Jacinto State Park open all year?

Hi there- I can't speak about the snow levels, but some fairly low elevation points of interest near Idyllwild would be Suicide Rock via the Deer Springs Trail. Or perhaps Saddle Junction via Humber Park.

Have you tried calling the either the USFS or State Park Ranger Stations in Idyllwild? They could probably tell you snow conditions. Looks like we're having "weather" all week. Probably a lot of snow up that high.

Regarding snowshoe rentals in Idyllwild; There is a Nomad Ventures adventure store in Idyllwild, but I don't think they rent. You'll want to check it out yourself. Information below. Otherwise REI & Adventure 16 rent snowshoes.

Make sure you have snow chains for your camper. Don't know if the storm that's coming will get that far on Saturday, but it might hit on Sunday.
