I had a similar problem when I 1st decided to try snowshoeing. The 1st pair I bought did not work out for me. I tried them several times and was unhappy with them. In the spring I bought the ones I now have and love them. I bought them at Sports Chaleton in the spring when they were on clearance. My advise is to rent them at the adventure center in near the ranger station in Mount San Jacinto State Park. Try a differant pair each time until you find one that work best for you. You'll be happy you did. These puppys last a long time.
