Hikers lost near top of Skyline 1/2/10

According to the Desert Sun, three hikers are lost near the top of the Skyline Trail and called for rescue at 7PM. Glad that Feeel made it OK. Obviously someone else isn't.

I hope they can build a snow cave to insulate themselves from the cold with a bright colored item or cloth on top for detection. More snow could complicate things.

Scott, did the track get snowed in that much after 12 or was it visibility. Just getting back from Oregon and wondered why this would have happened knowing there was a track knocked in.

All safe now according to ch 3 news. Rescued around midnight so they didn't have to spend a cold night up there.

Hey Steve & friends,

We topped out around 12:30 & it started snowing 1/2 hr. later.
The clouds also rolled in a bit, so that would make it a nasty "trail" to navigate, if out tracks hadn't already been covered over. We posted-holed close to 2 ft. after Coffman's in spots.

We saw no one, there were a couple sets of prints from looked like the day before, so I'm wondering what time these folks started, must not have been very early, (unless we passed them in an area unknowingly.

Glad there ok, the wind hit us in the face at the top, probably 28 degrees w/ a 20+ mph windchill at times.

Howdy Scott

Thanks for the Skyline report Sorry I didn't get a chance to say hi -- Lance and I went directly to the boarding area after entering the tram station due to the mass of people. While waiting on the deck, Craig told us that you, Steve and Fern had come up. We had near white out conditions at the summit at 11 AM -- wouldn't want to be up there on or Skyline when it starting snowing.
