San Jacinto Hike 12/18-12/20

Hi Guys!

My friends and I are taking a trip via the Deer Springs Trail and camping out at Strawberry Junction and Little Round Valley. Does anyone know if there are any water sources that would be potable? Or are they all frozen ?

To be honest, I haven't been up lately, and I don't have first hand info. With the weather we've been having, I doubt that they're frozen. Take a look at this map.

Points "A" and "B" are the Strawberry Cienega area which is the water source for Strawberry Junction. I don't remember for sure which point is the better source (I think it's "B"), but they're so close together, that it's pretty much a moot point.

Point "C" is a pool just above where the trail crosses the drainage en route to Little Round Valley. Sometimes you can filter anywhere in LRV, but if the water is low, then "C" is the best spot to get water. If temps are freezing, the water might be deep enough at "C" that you could break through the surface ice and get water.

There should also be water along the Deer Springs trail at the point where Deer Springs crosses the trail on the way to Little Round Valley.
