Round Valley (Tu/We)

Postby WoofDoggy » Sun Jul 18, 2010 8:01 am

Decided to try something a little easier than Fuller Ridge/LRV for my son's (11) 1st backpacking trip. We are going to take the tram up on Tuesday morning and hike to Round Valley for a couple nights. Wednesday we will hike up to the peak, and then back down the tram on Thursday.

Any suggestions on making it a good trip highly appreciated ...

Sounds like key things are to keep hydrated and watch out for snakes!

Take your time getting to Round Valley or leave in the afternoon. It's less than an hour hike from the tram. Maybe it's just me but i don't like getting to camp too early. And i've never seen a snake between the tram and peak so probably not a big worry. But there are snakes are lower on the west side of the mtn and on the Skyline.

I did tram to San Jac today. Trails seemed relatively quiet for a weekend. Still a nice flow of water in the creek between Long and Round Valleys as well as at the water pipe in RV.

What's the critter situation when camping in Round Valley. Is food left in sealed containers in a tent ok, or does it need to be more secure than that?

Thanks, Woof

No bears. Maybe squirrels or raccoons but i've left food in tent with no problem.
