Full Moon romp

Postby Cy Kaicener » Sun May 30, 2010 1:56 pm

Doreen says that she completed #254 on Skyline yesterday and that she missed seeing all of you that started around 1.00 am. I also missed you all. She started just before 5..00 am and did it in less than 7 hours.
She wanted to post it herself but has logging on problems. She found the weather perfect which means that the heat didnt bother her.

Howdy my Skyline Queen Doreen :)

Woo hoo, congratulations on going under 7 hours 8)

Sorry Team Skunk missed seeing you yesterday. The only reason we started so early was to hike Skyline with a nearly full moon.

I've discovered that I don't feel very good on these early starts --- I lucked out on the weather with my 5:45 AM start last Sunday.

Hope you'll be out again this upcoming Saturday. I know it will be warm, however, I'll be on Skyline again as I'm spending Saturday night in town for a conference on Sunday.

Miles of smiles and hugs,
Ellen

I'm noticing this too. Felt much more worn out yesterday afternoon and still feel more tired than usual today. Getting up at midnight rather than a more reasonable 5a makes quite a difference with bodily rhythms and sleep/recovery patterns.

Well, you apparently felt good enough to replenish the water cache!

How considerate of you, and how ungrateful of those SOB's who drained the cache and left the bottles.

Hey, I was thirsty! Oh, wait a minute, that was Fern's cache, not the bucket.

Florian, I think I know what you mean. When I was 18, I could do that kinda thing and still show up the next day for an exam. Now, I get home and think nothing but "Must Get Nap!" all day long.

Bad side: Kinda groggy and lacking focus all day long.
Good side: Giving in to the nap temptation, and enjoying the heck out of it, just like I did the hike. Those are some sweet naps.

Sadly, I didn't make the hike, although I seriously contemplated doing it. It would have been my first Skyline. I'm a strong hiker - I've done the 5000 feet of the Grand Canyon a couple of times and I backpack often in the Sierras - but the sheer audacity of climbing 8000 feet makes me pause. Still, I figured that what with starting at midnight, I'd be fairly certain to make the last tram ride down!

Oh well. Maybe I'll attempt to join the next major Skyline Party in October.

Meanwhile, my wife and I went hiking along the PCT in San Diego, in the Laguna Mountains. We climbed Garnet Peak (5900 ft) and the weather was clear enough to see both San Jacinto and San Gorgonio (63 and 83 miles away)!

This shot was taken about 10am Saturday, so you were probably drinking in the tram bar. No wonder you didn't see me waving hello! 8)
