Tahquitz South Ridge Road

Postby Apologist49 » Fri May 28, 2010 12:17 pm

I'm just wondering what the gravel road up to the South Ridge Trailhead for Tahquitz Peak is like. Is it 2wd-driveable? I'm planning a hike for the first weekend in June and am evaluating options - either South Ridge or Devil's Slide. I think I would prefer South Ridge but I would like to know the condition of the road. Thanks for the help!

Was up there yesterday, May29th. Dirt road was passable by all but very low clearance vehicles. Have a great hike!

Looks like South Ridge might be a go for my vehicle, still thinking about Devil's Slide way to Tahquitz though I was a little surprised to see a lot of snow still on the north face right below the summit where the trail makes its final traverse, in the photos from one of the trip reports to San J. Let's hope another (warmer) week helps to melt some of it!

Thanks for the great San J pics from this weekend by the way.....I climbed San J exactly a year ago and wow what a difference - only some patches of snow here and there in the shade back then!

I'm sure we can all appreciate this year for how much snow was in the mountains! As a new SoCal resident of just over a year it helps me see the diversity in this great landscape......
