Attempted to summit San Jacinto from Marion Mountain campground on Saturday, but had to turn back at 1pm at around 9,000 ft due to lack of a route and or route finding skills (about a dozen or so people were in the same situation). Snow up to that level was easy to traverse without crampons. Can't wait to go back and make the summit.

I am planning to take MMT on 5/29. I am hoping the trail would be clear by then.

BTW. very resourceful forum..Is there a similar forum for Mt.San Gorgonio?

Going to head up again tomorrow. If I'm not totally beat when I get home I'll post a snow report here.

Cheers to any on the trail this Friday!

Sorry for the late reply.

Girlfriend and I summited yesterday from Marion Mountain. Trail up to PCT is clear of snow and easy to follow. Trail after PCT is snowy and more difficult to follow. We lost the trail before 9000 feet. Point your nose uphill and you'll be on the right track. Just make sure you make for the correct cols and you don't need a trail.

Entrance to Little Round Valley is the second gully from the left (north) ridge.

It took us a whopping 7 hours to reach the top. I with stiff boots and an ice ax (kicking steps, the crampons stayed in the bag), and she with lowtop North Face Hedgehogs, Kahtoola microspikes, and trekking poles. She had a much easier time of it than me.

Routefinding was slow, and we were in for a LOT of bushwhacking: bring pants and gaitors!

Good luck! I'll be up there again in a week and a half. :)
