Has anyone gone to Suicide Rock or Lily Rock yet and can comment on the snow conditions?

Thanks

I was on the Devil's Slide Trail and PCT today and did not see significaht snow on either Suicide or Lily Rock. There wasn't much snow on the trail until I was on the east facing side of the hill at about 8500 ft. Although I wasn't on Deer Springs trail, I bet it's not too snowy.

Sally (from one tortoise to another!),

I'd like to do the DST to the tram and back this or next weekend. Do you (or anyone else) know the snow conditions on that route?

Really wish I could join you and the group on the Full Moon Romp, but my knee is not quite 100%. I'm really envious. Looking forward to sharing it vicariously with all the posts and pics. Have fun and be safe.

I called the Idyllwild Ranger Station (909) 382-2921 yesterday to ask about conditions on the Willow Creek Trail (trail betwen DST and the tram)

They reported patches of snow on the trail.

Thanks, kd. I love that hike but have only done it in the summer and fall, so thought I should check first. And thanks for the phone number so I can do my own investigation from now on!

Hikoholic, The DST is snow free. I went as far as the junction to the tram. The there was a 1 mile section on the north & east facing slopes before Wellman's Divide that was completely covered in snow that was a little annoyingly drifted.

Hikoholic,

I really like the Willow Creek trail in summer too, nice and cool.

I prefer the Willow Creek trail this time of year because it takes a lower route between the DST and the Tram and does not to climb to Wellman' Divide were it tends to be snowier (if snowier is a word).

Sometimes if the patch of snow is big enough, finding the trail on the other side can take a bit of time.

There is still quite a bit of snow of the east side of Lilly rock, other than that it appeared clear.

I hiked to Suicide Rock on April 10 and encountered only a few snow patches that were easily traversed in hiking shoes and trekking poles. You shouldn't have any problems. :)

Thanks, everyone, for the great info and suggestions. I love this Board and am looking forward to joining some of you on future hikes in my favorite SC mountains. Unfortunately, I just came down with an unwelcome virus that my students must have shared with me! I sure hope there's still some snow up there in early June. Can't wait.
