nice to see you pop up lipbiter....hope to see you out there sometime.

and I agree with Ze and Zip, hands down, the best time of year to enjoy that trail, either for pleasure or a painful pr, is october. cold, but a clear trail.

Uh oh, I was hoping you had forgotten about that sub-3 thing. Well, that gives me til October to either get my lazy butt in shape or come up with a good excuse for not going!

Thanks for all of the reponses to my question. We will not be making the Cactus to Clouds hike in July. We have chosen to hike to the Gorgonio peak via the Vivian Creek trial.

Well, there you go. You might see some of us over there - I go up San G or San B most weekends during the summer, and I know a lot of the people here do something similar as well. Hope you guys have a great time. Keep your eyes out for bluerail - he'll be the guy carrying beer and a bouquet of balloons...

A far better choice. The Viv. Cr. Tr. starts at about a mile high and has a lot more shade. It's also less gain but a worthy challenge; it's no slouch at all.

Hope we weren't too harsh in our responses. It's just that most of us recoil at the idea of going in the Summer, particularly after a recent heat stroke death.

Good choice! Vivian Creek to San G is just as challenging as Skyline, but i think also safer. Be sure to get your wilderness permit request in early tho.

Then do the Skyline in October!!
