Hi everybody, wow, all the activity, being the window from snow to heat is closing fast.
Thanks Jim for re-posting my info, and for Marmot's post (although realize he's good with heat & hikes a good pace, 11 am is only for true desert rats)!

So, I'll be on the trail Sat (taking reservations....lol), and I'm going with a slower, older guy who's Not accustomed to heat, so we'll start at 4 from Ramon Rd, (to lessen the initial climb).

If your not used to, or good with heat, leave early this time of year! Even if it's only 75 or 80 on parts of the trail, you Will feel it all the way too 6k ft. or higher. There's constant exposure on you 90% of the hike.

Bring 2 100 oz bladders if possible, especially if you sweat a lot or it will take you over 6-7 hrs., and use electrolytes in one!

Zip, you will only lose maybe 10-15 mins is my guess, (I had an off day last Sat & was able to sub 5, but barely). If any of the larger patches are still around, look around as previous poster mentioned to find the trail again, many times it might be above you.

Have fun, be safe & sensible,

Do most people leave from Ramon, or the museum? I did this once about 8 years ago and left from the museum.
BTW Hike past Old Camp in OC yesterday and did not see any snakes all day but I kept watching out for them.
Enjoy Life!

first time I went up the museum trail at 4 am...it was already quite warm and I was like, 'what the hell is this?!". 2nd time when with blue and fern and they didn't even bother going on the trail, just straight up! nice "warm up"

Looks like the 22nd might see some traffic. I'll be heading up with a couple of friends. Maybe we'll meet some of the people from this board.
