I'm planning a trip up the tram this weekend with the hopes of achieving the summit. I'm pretty familiar with San Jacinto: I've hiked the devil's slide from Idyllwild about 4 times, done the Cactus to clouds hike, and done a snow shoe day around the tram. This year a small group of us were hoping to do a 3 day snow camping trip. Although we've done multiple snow backpacking trips before, it will be our first attempt on San J. A few questions came to mind:
First, will there be running water still available at the Little Round Valley campground? Or will we need to boil water for eating?
Also, I'd like opinions on whether or not to do a 2 or 3 day trip. This is what our tentative itinerary would look like:
2 day version:
DAY 1 tram plus hike to campsite
DAY 2 summit attempt, hike back to tram
or 3 day version
DAY 1 tram plus hike to campsite
DAY 2 summit attempt camp back at little round valley
DAY 3 hike back to tram
Any advice is much appreciated!
